Warlords, The (Tau ming chong): Collectors Edition (Blu-ray) (2007)
Ray N

Set during the time of the Taiping rebellion in China against the corrupt Qing dynasty when five million people died from starvation, disease or by the sword, The Warlords from director Peter Ho-Sun Chan (Perhaps Love) is both a magnificent historical epic and a film with a focus upon individual, intimate relationships. It also contains the performance for which action star Jet Li won Best Actor at the 2008 Hong Kong Film Awards. With fantastic action sequences, great acting, wonderful visuals and a great sound design, The Warlords is a stunning cinematic experience that builds to an inevitable climax that will not soon be forgotten. The Warlords is simply one of the best epic action films of 2007. . Sponsored by Atlantic DVD.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents-Season Two (1956)
GarryA

Cover Art The second season of this classic series is every bit as good as the first. Superb, tight scripts, taught direction, spot on performances plus the director's hilarious prologue and epilogue. This is sublime, classic television - and with transfers that will more than please. . Sponsored by Family Boxoffice.

Night of the Living Dead: 40th Anniversary Edition (1968)
John S

Night of the Living Dead has been released in so many variations on DVD, including colourised versions and 30th anniversary editions with post-production scenes added, that it is only necessary to inform you of the versions that really compare to this Australian release by Beyond Home Entertainment. So don't hesitate to read on... . Sponsored by Atlantic DVD.

Sharpe's Regiment/Sharpe's Siege/Sharpe's Mission (1996)
Ray N

Sharpe's Regiment, Sharpe's Siege and Sharpe's Mission are three of a series of made for TV films based upon the character created by Bernard Cornwell. The three films in this box set share good casts, good battle sequences and impressive attention to detail, with the sets, uniforms, weapons and drill reasonably accurate and realistic to the period. Two of the three films in the set are terrific examples of the Sharpe series, making the box set a great buy for fans of Sharpe or for anyone interested in the historical period of the Napoleonic Wars. . Sponsored by Family Boxoffice.

Balibo (Blu-ray) (2009)
Trevor D

What happened to a group of Australian journalists in the jungles of East Timor in 1975 has been shrouded in mystery and deceit for over 30 years. Balibo tells the story of the Balibo Five and journalist Roger East, a man hot on the trail of the truth. Star Anthony La Paglia has never been better in this searing film that deserves a place in every Blu-ray collection. . Sponsored by Disk Doctor.

Sharpe's Mission (1996)
Ray N

Sharpe's Mission is one of a series of made for TV films based upon the character created by Bernard Cornwell in a series of novels. In Sharpe's Mission, Sharpe is sent by Lord Wellington on a mission behind French lines to blow up an enemy power magazine. Yet the ostensible reason for the mission is only a pretext to flush out a traitor and the mission becomes a deadly game of bluff and counter bluff with Sharpe caught between a traitor, a powder cache and a French battalion. Sharpe's Mission is included in a two disc set. Sharpe's Regiment and Sharpe's Siege are on one disc, Sharpe's Mission on the other. . Sponsored by Disk Doctor.

The Sweet Hereafter (Beyond Home Ent) (1997)
Trevor D

The Sweet Hereafter is a masterpiece of modern cinema - a meditation on grief and loneliness that can't help but to touch a deep chord. Unfortunately, this release is almost worthless - a merciless hatchet job of a widescreen film. Only good if you have a square TV and hate "them darned black bars!" Buy the film from Region 1 please! . Sponsored by DeVoteD.

Epsilon (1995)
Steve C

Epsilon is an interesting, but not entirely successful sci-fi film from Rolf de Heer. Ironically, the environmental themes in the story are probably more relevant today than when the film was made over ten years ago. This is the first time the original 1995 cut has been released on DVD. This edition also includes the US - Miramax version of the film. Epsilon is presented as an instalment of Umbrella's Rolf de Heer Collection. . Sponsored by Family Boxoffice.

Good Night, and Good Luck. (Icon) (2004)

A re-release of this film by Icon adds one significant feature that many readers will appreciate. . Sponsored by Atlantic DVD.

Lake Mungo (2008)
AdamG

An eerie supernatural thriller, told like an episode of Australian story (side by side you would struggle to tell them apart). No cheap scares, just a gripping story about a family unearthing the double life of their late daughter. . Sponsored by DVDown Under.

Ben 10: Alien Swarm (2009)
DanielB

The best movie so far from the Ben 10 stable will certainly be enjoyed by fans of the series and isn't even a bad watch for adults. Quality disc but minimal extras. . Sponsored by Atlantic DVD.
